After all the lead up to Christmas, the big day itself did not disappoint. Due to weather, we headed to Tennessee a little early. Matt was very concerned that Santa wouldn't know where to find him, but was much reassured after this email from Santa. Grandma and Grandpa were delighted to have the boy for Christmas Eve, and helped scatter reindeer food and carrots in the yard. They were also pleased to get to witness the insanity that is Christmas morning with a five year old.
Grandpa and Grandma, enjoying Christmas morning with Matt:

Matt got lots of interesting things for Christmas, including a beginning science set from his Auntie Sally, which looks awesome.

Also in the science theme, he got a giant magnifying glass with which to look at bugs, rocks and anything else that needs closer inspection. He can't wait for warmer weather to try this out in the yard.

He also received some cool board games and books, and the wretched Pillow Pet he's been begging for for months now. The Pillow Pet commercial comes on every children's television show approximately ten times an hour, extolling the virtues of a stuffed animal that transforms into a pillow and back. According to the super annoying announcer, it's the "perfect $20 present!" Seriously? It's not. It's a pillow with a head.

I categorically refused to spend $20 on this thing. Thankfully, one his aunts bought it for him. He sleeps with it every night and carries it around with him, occasionally sighing, "I just love my Pillow Pet." Stupid Pillow Pet.
Pillow Pet aside, mostly the boy got Legos for Christmas. Lots and lots of Legos. A Lego airplane, a Lego tanker truck, a Lego pizza truck (complete with pizza shooter), and a huge set of Lego people, among other things.
Checking out the Lego people box:

Invasion of the Lego people:

It is all Lego, all the time at our house now.
We also had a fine Christmas at Grandma Lucille's, with all its usual chaos and insanity.
So...which of these are for me?

Present opening chaos:

So: totally exhausting, but as always, totally worth it. We really feel so lucky that we get to see almost all of the family during the holidays. This time of year especially, it's nice to be so close to home.
Just Christmas cuteness:

Next up: the never-ending birthday party.
