Bending it Like Beckham

Soccer season has started and Matt is loving it. While a lot of the other kids are older/bigger/have more experience, Matt is fearless about getting right in the fray of things and going for the ball. He does seem to spend a lot of time on the ground, but he usually pops right back up. There's a lot of chatter about him on the sidelines from other parents. "Did you see number eight? He's so little!" "He's so cute - look at those glasses!" "Oh my God, he's going to get killed out there!" "Oh! Matt's down again."

His favorite part so far is playing goalie, which he has gotten to do in two games now. The first game he did very well and allowed no goals. Last night was a little rougher - four or five got past him, but he made a diving athletic stop at the end of the game that was pretty cool. At this level we're all just trying to focus on the effort and not the outcome.
