We spent a quiet Thanksgiving in Tennessee with family. As usual, I made Matt get all dressed up. Because all five year-olds need a blazer and desert boots.

This is solely for me, because as soon as we got to Grandma Lucille's house, he ditched the blazer and shimmied up his favorite tree, becoming instantly dirty, but happy. And Thanksgiving should be all about happy, right?

Back at Grandma and Grandpa's, we decorated the now-annual gingerbread houses. Grandma wisely bought the pre-assembled ones this year, as the houses we had to construct last year caused much angst. Think grumblings from Grandpa about icing and structural integrity and irritated replies from Grandma along the lines of, "It's just a gingerbread house! Ahhhh!" But this year all was well in gingerbread world, as Matt, Grandma and I happily decorated our houses.

Matt got creative with the Twizzlers this year, as well as adding his traditional decapitated Peeps snowman.

As always, they are definitely homemade and not likely to win any awards at the National Gingerbread House Competition, but I love them. It was a good way to get in the Christmas spirit, and prepare for the month-long sprint of holiday activities. Bring on Christmas!
