Hot fun in the summertime

It's been a fairly low key summer here so far.  No big vacations or really exciting events, just a lot of hanging out with friends and relaxing.  It's been nice, actually, to not have every day scheduled within an inch of its life.  We've been to the library a lot, and gone swimming in friends' pools, and logged a lot of hours in the sandbox.  Just relaxing summer stuff.

My favorite activity so far this summer (at least on the cuteness scale) has been the lemonade stand.  My little capitalist decided that he needed to increase his income in order to buy more Legos.  Clearly, in his six year old mind, the most effective way to do this was to have a lemonade stand.   So we gave him a box, and he created his stand at the end of our driveway, waving bravely at passing cars, hoping to draw them in.  Despite (or maybe because of) the ungodly heat, he was pretty successful. While he didn't earn the hundreds he was hoping for - which is hard at a quarter a cup - he did fairly well during the day.  He had planned on having more evening hours to lure in neighborhood walkers, but those were cancelled upon the arrival of Grandma and Grandpa, which was more entertaining, and quite frankly, more lucrative.

Lemonade for sale!  He crafted the sign himself.
We've done a lot of the standard summer things here - vacation Bible school, trips to the splash pad at the park, and a couple of excursions to Lexington with friends.

Boy in a giant bubble at the Explorium
His favorite VBS helper Jimmy - shortly after this picture was taken, Jimmy walked through a doorway, smacking the boy right into the door frame.  Matt was fine, but poor Jimmy was horrified.

With the car hauler of Nascar driver Jamie McMurray, which we happened upon at Target one day.  Random, but exciting for the boy.

Matt loved being this close to an eighteen wheeler.

Mostly we've been lazy, which, in my opinion, is what you're supposed to do in the summer.  School starts back in a matter of weeks, and I'm sure we'll be covered up with homework and soccer practice before very long.  So, until then, we will continue to make popsicles out of fruit punch, play in the sprinkler, and catch fireflies.  Summertime, and the living is easy....
