My day so far...

The cat just ate a crayon.

Matt has just dumped an entire jar of grated Parmesan cheese all over the living room. He is dancing in it, laughing and yelling "Pam cheese!"

The cat is now eating the Parmesan cheese. This guarantees cat puke later, which will now be technicolored due to the aforementioned crayon-eating.

Please shoot me.

I feel your pain, except instead of a Matt, I have a 50-lb dog. Fun!

Richard wants to know which cat.

Which cat? Only Ferris is weird enough to eat a crayon.

Oh, come on. They're all weird enough to eat crayons. Now, if you'd said one of the cats had fashioned some crayons into some sort of Doomsday Device, that would obviously be Ferris.

Weirdness. Yes. We've quite painfully discovered that one of Mary's cats is agoraphobic. None have yet found a taste for crayons, though.

I feel as though I should say a few kind words in defense of Ferris. For those of you who have never met her, she is a small, feisty, 14 year-old black and white cat with an attitude.

I'm sure she would have ended up at the shelter if she hadn't been adopted at a very young age by Betsy (and Jennifer) during college. It's easy to love a small cuddly kitten but harder to save one that is hissing and spitting. We'll never know about Ferris's earliest days but we suspect that she didn't have the required maternal cat care. She has never been very social but has mellowed through the years. She used to regularly end up high in my Christmas tree when she visited during the holidays and made life rather miserable for my cat while she was there.

However, and this is a big however, I saw her just yesterday while we were briefly in KY, and observed her letting Matt pat her and hug her, however briefly. That is a huge amount of tolerance for that cat. She could easily maul Matthew but has chosen instead to run away and protect herself from his 2 year-old enthusiasm . After all these years, she will gladly let me touch her and pay attention to her. This is a great improvement over former behavior. She's really not a bad little cat.
